The Blackmagic ATEM Mini Extreme ISO G2 is the most capable switcher in the ATEM Mini line and, because it combines the switcher and a professional control panel in one chassis, one of the most portable broadcast tools you can buy. It switches eight HDMI sources, records every one of them as a separate file, and connects to modern storage and replay workflows through CFexpress, Thunderbolt and 10G Ethernet.
Overview
The G2 carries a redesigned professional control surface: large NKK red and green source-select buttons, multiple knob controls, a hardware T-bar fader and a cleaner button layout, so a single operator can run a high-end show by feel. Eight standards-converted HDMI inputs handle cameras and computers at mixed formats, and three independent HDMI outputs can each be routed to program, preview or multiview.
It records ISO files of all eight inputs plus the program, and the storage options are what set it apart. There is a built-in CFexpress card slot and a Thunderbolt port for record and playback, and a 10G Ethernet connection that can expose the CFexpress card or an external disk as a shared network drive. Through Thunderbolt you get fill and key playback, live capture and a real live-action replay system: with DaVinci Resolve you can press the Point of Interest button and instantly play back all eight ISO angles, build a replay and push it out, something no traditional replay unit does at this size.
Recorded media can sync to Blackmagic Cloud, so an editor can open the DaVinci Resolve project and start cutting while you are still live. Audio is handled properly too, with balanced XLR input, MADI input, a Fairlight status display and headphone monitoring. There is a media pool with 200 frames of animation, plus DVE, chroma key and a media player. It streams over RTMP and presents a USB webcam output for software like Zoom and OBS.
