Allen & Heath WZ4 16:2 is a 16-input analog console with 16 mic/line inputs on balanced XLR and TRS jack, two digital FX engines carrying 20 studio quality presets, 6 aux sends and 2 dedicated stereo return channels. Allen & Heath call it a consistent best seller, and it is the straightforward all-purpose desk in the MixWizard4 range.

Where the 14:4:2 trades inputs for groups and modes, the 16:2 spends everything on inputs. Sixteen mic/line channels at full specification, in a format simple enough that a volunteer can be shown it once, is why this model keeps selling.
The two digital FX engines are designed by the same DSP team responsible for Allen & Heath's flagship digital mixers, and carry 20 studio quality presets between them. Two engines means a reverb and a delay can run at the same time rather than choosing between them, and two dedicated stereo return channels handle external units or stereo line sources without spending mono inputs.
The MixWizard4 preamp was developed by analogue designer Mike Griffin and adapted from the design used in Allen & Heath's large-format analogue consoles. It delivers very low noise, minimal distortion, a wide and smooth gain law, and substantial headroom.
Every MixWizard4 carries six auxes, each with its own master level control and impedance-balanced TRS output. Auxes 1 and 2 are pre-fade for monitors, 3 and 4 switch pre or post-fade for monitors, effects or extra zone feeds, and 5 and 6 are post-fade for effects and aux-fed subs. The pre and post settings change via internal jumpers.
The QCC quick change connector system lets the connector panel move to suit a desktop, a rack or a flightcase, and the hard plastic side trims come off to reveal integral rack ears.

How Many Microphones Can It Take?
Sixteen, all on full specification mic/line channels with balanced XLR and TRS jack inputs feeding the MixWizard4 preamp. Two dedicated stereo return channels sit on top of that for effects returns or stereo line sources, so playback does not consume a mono input.
Who Is the WZ4 16:2 For?
Houses of worship, schools, theaters and venues that need sixteen good preamps in a desk that is simple to hand to a volunteer. It is also common in installs, where the QCC connector system and integral rack ears make the physical fit easier.
What Do the Two FX Engines Do?

How Is It Different From the WZ4 14:4:2?
The 16:2 has 16 mono mic/line inputs, two FX engines and two stereo returns, with no sub groups. The 14:4:2 has 10 mono inputs plus two dual stereo channels, four sub groups, a 6x2 matrix and FOH, Monitor and Dual operating modes.

Why Allen & Heath?
