Allen & Heath ZED-6FX is a compact 6-input analog mixer with onboard effects, adding an internal FX engine with tap tempo and 61 presets to the ZED-6 platform. It carries 2 mic/line inputs on XLR and TRS, 2 stereo inputs, 2 Hi-Z instrument inputs, 2-band MusiQ EQ with low cut, XLR main outputs and 48 V phantom power.

The reason to take the FX version is that the alternative is an outboard unit, two more cables and an aux send to manage. For a duo playing a room with no engineer, the effects being inside the mixer is the difference between using them and not.
Allen & Heath rebuilt the effects suite for this generation. Sixty-one presets cover reverbs and delays, with multi-model presets that combine the two into results that change with playing dynamics. Tap tempo sets delay time against the song rather than by ear against a knob.
The preamp is where the ZED range earns its reputation. Allen & Heath's DuoPre design splits the gain into two stages, which keeps noise down and headroom high across the whole range of the control rather than only at the top of it. It is the same R&D team that builds the preamps on the company's flagship touring consoles.
MusiQ EQ was designed specifically for the ZED mixers. Rather than borrowing a generic curve, the analogue engineers set the target frequencies and the slope of each band around what actually needs correcting on instruments and voices, which is why it tends to sound right with less movement of the controls.

What Effects Does the ZED-6FX Have?
An internal engine with 61 presets covering reverbs and delays, including special multi-model presets that combine reverb and delay into a single dynamic effect. Tap tempo sets the delay time in time with the song.
Who Is the ZED-6FX For?
Singer-songwriters and duos who want vocal reverb without carrying a rack unit, small venues running without an engineer, and anyone whose set needs effects but whose setup time does not allow for patching them.
Can I Plug a Guitar in Directly?
Yes. Two Hi-Z instrument inputs take a guitar or bass without a DI box, the same as on the ZED-6.
Is the Audio Path Different From the ZED-6?
No. Same DuoPre preamps, same 2-band MusiQ EQ with low cut, same XLR outputs and 48 V phantom power. The FX engine is the addition.
