It carries 2-band EQ with a low cut filter, XLR main outputs and 48 V phantom power, and it works as a standalone mixer or as a computer interface.

The ZEDi idea is that a small mixer and a small audio interface are largely the same hardware, so there is no reason to buy two. The ZEDi-8 works as a standalone analog mixer with no computer attached, and as a 2-in 2-out USB interface when there is one.
That makes it a natural fit for a room that does double duty. The same box handles a rehearsal, a small gig and a recording session, and the preamps feeding the computer are Allen & Heath's rather than whatever came bundled with an entry-level interface.

How Many Channels Does the USB Interface Carry?
Two in and two out. That records a stereo mix from the desk into a computer and returns a stereo playback from it. For four in and four out at this size, the ZEDi-10 and ZEDi-10FX step up.

Home studios that also need a live mixer, podcasters recording two microphones, singer-songwriters who rehearse and record in the same room, and anyone who would otherwise buy a small mixer and a small interface separately.
Does It Work Without a Computer?
Yes. It is a fully functional analog mixer on its own. The USB interface is an addition, not a requirement.
Can I Record a Guitar Directly?
Yes. Two Hi-Z instrument inputs accept guitar or bass without a DI box, and those signals pass through the mixer to the USB output.
