The Applause AB28-5S is a super shallow roundback acoustic-electric guitar with a cutaway and round center soundhole, in black satin. It has a spruce top with scalloped X-bracing, a super shallow Lyrachord bowl, a nato neck, ovangkol fingerboard and bridge, a 643 mm scale, 43 mm nut, and an Applause preamp with 3-band EQ and built-in tuner.
A thin-body roundback that plays like an electric.
The roundback is the design Ovation is known for: a one-piece Lyrachord composite bowl in place of flat wooden back and sides. The bowl resists humidity and temperature changes far better than wood, holds up to the road, and projects sound forward, which also helps control feedback on stage.
The super shallow bowl is the slimmest Applause body. It sits against the body almost like a solid-body electric, which makes it comfortable for long sets, and it is the most feedback-resistant shape when the stage gets loud. The cutaway opens the upper frets and the preamp with 3-band EQ and tuner handles the rest.
Ivory binding with multi-ply purfling and diecast chrome tuners finish the black satin body.

Who Is the AB28-5S For?
Electric players who double on acoustic, gigging players who want the most feedback-resistant body, and anyone who finds deep acoustic bodies uncomfortable.
Super Shallow or Mid-Depth?
Super shallow is thinner, more comfortable and better at resisting feedback. A mid-depth bowl like the AB24 has more acoustic volume and low end unplugged.
