Pro Tools MTRX Base Unit is a modular multi-format audio interface and monitor controller developed for Avid by Digital Audio Denmark, shipping with 16 channels of AES I/O, a coaxial MADI I/O pair, two mini DigiLink ports and Pro|Mon 2 Eucon monitor control. It works as a Pro Tools HD interface, as an integrated monitor section for Avid control surfaces, or as both at once.

Immersive post and music rooms have a routing problem before they have a converter problem. A 7.1.4 monitoring setup with multiple sources, several sets of speakers and a control surface generates a matrix that a patchbay cannot sensibly handle. The MTRX puts a large integrated router at the centre of the chassis so that matrix lives in one place.
Digital Audio Denmark designed it, which matters because DAD's converters were already the reference in Scandinavian post before Avid partnered with them. The base unit ships with 16 AES I/O, coaxial MADI in and out, two mini DigiLink ports and Pro|Mon 2 monitor control driven over Eucon from an Avid surface.
Card slots take analog input, analog output and microphone preamp options, so the same chassis covers a room that needs 32 analog outputs for immersive monitoring and a room that needs mic pres on the floor. That modularity is why it turns up in dub theatres, scoring stages and mastering rooms rather than being replaced every few years.

What Is the MTRX Actually For?
It combines three things a professional room otherwise buys separately: a Pro Tools HD interface, a large integrated audio router, and a monitor controller. In immersive post and music rooms those three functions overlap constantly, and keeping them in one chassis removes a patchbay's worth of complexity.
What Comes in the Base Unit?
16 channels of AES I/O, a coaxial MADI input and output pair, two mini DigiLink ports, and Pro|Mon 2 Eucon monitor functionality. Analog input, analog output and microphone preamp cards are options that fit the same chassis.
Who Designed the MTRX?
Digital Audio Denmark developed it for Avid. DAD's converters were already established as a reference in Scandinavian post production before the partnership.
Does It Need an Avid Control Surface?
Not to work as an interface. The Pro|Mon 2 monitor section is controlled over Eucon, so a full monitor control workflow does assume an Avid surface. Call 844-687-4208 to talk through a configuration before ordering.
Why Avid
Avid has set the standard for professional audio and video production since Pro Tools arrived in 1991. The company's tools are the default in film post, broadcast and commercial music, to the point that Pro Tools session compatibility is a hiring requirement in most professional rooms. The MTRX and HD I/O hardware lines exist to give those sessions converters and routing that hold up under the scrutiny of a scoring stage or a dub theatre.
