The CAD Audio M179 is a large diaphragm infinitely adjustable versaPattern™ polar pattern condenser microphone. It sits in CAD Audio's Equitek line of studio condensers, built for detailed vocal and acoustic instrument recording where clarity and low self-noise matter.
It covers 10 Hz - 20 kHz with a variable pickup pattern on a externally biased condenser (side address) element, keeping the source in focus while pushing room noise and bleed to the background. Sensitivity is rated at -36 dBV (16mV) @ 1 Pa, and it handles peaks up to 143 dB SPL (with pad), so loud sources will not push it into distortion. Self noise is just 11 dBA, quiet enough for close recording work. In the studio it earns its place on vocals, acoustic instruments, and voiceover, and it is equally at home in a project room or a broadcast chair.
