Overview

Cloudlifter CL-4 is a four-channel rackmount mic activator providing up to 25dB of ultra-clean gain per channel to dynamic and ribbon microphones, powered entirely by phantom power from the connected console or interface. It is the installation and touring version of the Cloudlifter.

Four channels in a rack, for the install where nobody will ever touch it again.

Once a Cloudlifter is part of a permanent signal chain rather than a desktop accessory, the desktop enclosure becomes the problem. The CL-4 puts four independent channels in a rackmount chassis so the unit lives in the rack alongside the console, cabled once and left alone.

That makes it the right choice for houses of worship running multiple low-output dynamics on a platform, for broadcast and recording studios with several ribbon microphones in regular use, for touring racks, and for clubs and venues where the gain structure has to be correct without an engineer intervening. Each channel uses the same patented discrete Class A JFET circuit as the CL-1. Built in the United States.

Who Is the CL-4 For?

Houses of worship running several low-output dynamic microphones, broadcast and recording studios with multiple ribbon microphones in regular use, touring racks, and clubs and venues where gain structure must stay correct without anyone adjusting it.

Does Each Channel Need Its Own Phantom Power?

Yes. Every channel draws 48V phantom from the console or interface channel it feeds. A channel without phantom power will not pass signal.

Is the Audio Circuit the Same as the CL-1?

Yes. Each of the four channels uses the same patented discrete Class A JFET circuit, with no transformers, capacitors or resistors in the direct audio path.

Why Cloud Microphones

Cloud Microphones builds in Tucson, Arizona. The company grew out of Stephen Sank's restoration work on original RCA ribbon microphones and Rodger Cloud's engineering, and it holds the patent on the discrete JFET circuit that every Cloudlifter uses. The Cloudlifter created the mic activator category outright and remains the reference product in it. Ribbon elements are cut, corrugated and installed by hand, and the whole line is manufactured in the United States.
