Cloud U1 is a universal microphone shockmount using a patented W-shaped Lyre suspension in place of the elastic bands found in traditional cat's cradle designs, delivering up to twice the isolation. It is fully adjustable across a wide range of microphone bodies, side address and end address alike.
Elastic perishes and sags. This does neither.
A conventional cat's cradle shockmount hangs the microphone in elastic cord. The cord stretches with time and temperature, the tension goes uneven, and eventually the mic sits off centre or the band snaps mid-session. The U1 replaces the elastic entirely with a moulded W-shaped Lyre system oriented around a central mounting ring.
Because the geometry does the isolation rather than tension, performance stays consistent and the mount does not need retensioning. Four-way adjustable fasteners make swapping microphones quick between takes. It accepts Cloud's own ribbon microphones and a wide range of other medium to large bodies, including awkwardly shaped mics and ones previously restricted to a proprietary mount.

Why Replace Elastic Shockmounts?
Elastic cord stretches with age and temperature, loses even tension, and eventually fails mid-session. The Lyre system uses moulded geometry rather than tension, so isolation stays consistent and there is nothing to retension or replace.
Which Microphones Does the U1 Fit?
Medium to large bodies, both side address and end address. It was designed around Cloud's ribbon microphones but accommodates a wide range of classic and modern designs, including mics with unusual shapes or ones that previously required a proprietary mount.
How Much Isolation Does It Actually Provide?
Cloud states up to twice the isolation of a traditional cat's cradle elastic suspension, using the patented vibration-resistant W-shaped Lyre geometry arranged around a central mounting ring.
Why Cloud Microphones
Cloud Microphones builds in Tucson, Arizona. The company grew out of Stephen Sank's restoration work on original RCA ribbon microphones and Rodger Cloud's engineering, and it holds the patent on the discrete JFET circuit that every Cloudlifter uses. The Cloudlifter created the mic activator category outright and remains the reference product in it. Ribbon elements are cut, corrugated and installed by hand, and the whole line is manufactured in the United States.
