What Does a Double Brace Actually Do?

It adds a second support between the bell and the leadpipe. That stiffens the assembly, so a knock that would otherwise pull the bell out of alignment gets absorbed by the brace instead. On a school horn that is the difference between a scratch and a repair bill.

Does the Double Brace Change the Sound?

Marginally. A stiffer horn tends to feel slightly more focused and slightly more resistant. In a student instrument in a concert band the difference is not one an audience will hear.
