DigiTech Bass Whammy is a treadle pitch-shift pedal voiced for bass, carrying the classic Whammy settings with polyphonic note tracking tuned to low-frequency material. Classic and Chord modes cover single-note and chordal playing, and the pedal is true bypass, MIDI controllable and runs from a 9 V DC supply. Conversion is 24-bit at 44.1 kHz with 20 Hz to 20 kHz response.

Pitch shifting on bass is harder than on guitar. The fundamental is lower, the period is longer, and a tracking algorithm written for guitar tends to stutter or drop out on the bottom strings. The Bass Whammy uses pitch detection and polyphonic tracking specifically aimed at that range.
The settings themselves are the Whammy set that players already know, driven by the treadle. Classic mode reproduces the shift-glitch character of the original Whammy, artifacts included, which is what a lot of players are actually after. Chord mode runs the advanced polyphonic tracking for a smooth, exact shift that stays clean under double stops and chords.
It is true bypass, so it stays out of the signal path when off, and the MIDI input allows remote selection and control from a switcher. The 9 V DC supply is included in the box along with a quick start guide and registration card.

Why Not Just Use a Guitar Whammy on Bass?
Tracking. A guitar-voiced algorithm has to detect pitch from a much shorter waveform period than a bass produces, and on the low strings it tends to stutter, glitch or drop the note. The Bass Whammy uses pitch detection and polyphonic tracking aimed at the bass range, so the shift stays stable down to the bottom of the instrument.

What Is the Difference Between Classic and Chord Mode?

Why DigiTech?
DigiTech has built guitar effects since 1984 and invented the mass-market digital pitch shifter with the original Whammy in 1989.
