OPTIWEB is Elixir's thinnest coating, engineered so the string feels and sounds like an uncoated set while still resisting the gunk that kills tone. For the player who always said coated strings feel wrong. This is the one that doesn't.
OPTIWEB came out of a straightforward complaint. Coated strings lasted, but a lot of players could feel the coating and did not like it. Elixir's answer was to take the layer as thin as it could go while still sealing the windings.
What you get is a crisp, present tone with a grippy rather than slick surface, which is what players who bend hard and use wide vibrato tend to want. It is the closest of the three coatings to a plain nickel string, and the trade is that it does not damp finger squeak the way POLYWEB does.
Buying three sets at once is the practical move if you gig. Light .010-.046 is the most common electric gauge there is, so a spare set in the case is never wasted.

How Does OPTIWEB Compare to a Plain Nickel String?

Why Elixir Strings
