The Elixir POLYWEB Nickel Plated Steel Electric Guitar Strings are coated electric guitar strings built for players who want a warm, rounded tone and a fast, slick feel that lasts. Nickel plated steel wrap wire, Elixir's original POLYWEB coating over the whole string, and Anti-Rust Plated plain steels. Available here in Custom Light .009-.046 and Medium .011-.049.
The thickest Elixir coating, for the warmest tone and the least finger squeak.
POLYWEB was the coating that started Elixir in 1997 and it is still the one players reach for when they want the edge taken off. It sits a little heavier on the string than NANOWEB or OPTIWEB, which rolls back some of the top end and gives you a warm, thick voice with a genuinely slick surface under the fingers.
That slickness is the other reason it stays in the lineup. Finger squeak drops off sharply, which matters if you record or play into a close mic. Rhythm players and anyone with acidic sweat tend to get the longest life out of this coating of the three.
Both gauges here are full six-string sets. Custom Light .009-.046 is the easier bend, good for lead playing and lighter picking. Medium .011-.049 gives more tension and more push, which suits drop tunings, heavier strumming and archtops.

Who Are These Strings For?
Players who want a warm tone rather than a bright one, and who value a smooth, low-friction feel. Also anyone who kills strings fast. If your sets go dead in a week, a coated POLYWEB set will usually outlast three uncoated ones.
What Is the Difference Between POLYWEB, NANOWEB and OPTIWEB?
They are the same idea at three thicknesses. POLYWEB is the thickest, so it is the warmest and the slickest. NANOWEB is thinner and brighter with more traditional feel. OPTIWEB is the thinnest, aimed at players who want a coated string to feel and sound uncoated. Tone life is comparable across all three.
Which Gauge Should I Choose?
Custom Light .009-.046 for lighter tension, easier bends and lead work. Medium .011-.049 for more tension and volume, drop tunings, or a hollowbody. If you are changing gauge on an electric, expect to check the truss rod and the intonation afterward.

Why Elixir Strings
Elixir is the only string maker that coats the entire string rather than just the wrap wire, which keeps sweat and debris out of the gaps between the windings where tone normally dies first. Anti-Rust Plating on the plain steels protects the rest of the set. The result is fewer string changes and a set that still sounds like itself weeks in.

Are these genuine Elixir Strings?

How long do Elixir POLYWEB strings actually last?
There is no fixed number, it depends on how much you play and how acidic your sweat is. The point of the coating is that the set holds its tone for far longer than an uncoated set, so most players change them a fraction as often.
Will these fit a floating tremolo?
Yes, they are a standard ball end electric set. If you change gauge on a floating tremolo you will need to rebalance the spring tension.
Can I use the Custom Light set for drop tuning?
You can, but .009-.046 will feel loose below standard. For drop tunings the Medium .011-.049 set holds pitch and tension far better.
