IK Multimedia iRig BlueTurn is a wireless Bluetooth foot controller for turning pages on iPhone, iPad and Mac, using Bluetooth Low Energy 4.1 with an approximate range of 10 m. Two backlit silent footswitches handle forward and back, and it runs on two AAA batteries in a body weighing 125 g.
Turns pages with a foot so both hands stay on the instrument.
Reading from a tablet solves the problem of carrying paper and creates a new one: you still need a free hand to turn the page. BlueTurn puts that on the floor. Two footswitches, forward and back, connected over Bluetooth Low Energy to any app that responds to page turn commands.
The switches are silent, which is the detail that matters in a quiet passage or a recorded service. They are also backlit at low intensity so they can be found on a dark stage without lighting up the front row.
Bluetooth Low Energy is what gives it a usable battery life on two AAA cells. Range is approximately 10 m depending on orientation and obstructions, which covers any normal stage position relative to a stand.
