IK Multimedia iRig Keys 2 is a 37-key MIDI keyboard controller with 37 mini keys and velocity response, MIDI in and out on 2.5 mm TRS jacks, a 1/8 in. stereo headphone output and a micro-USB device connector. It works with iPhone, iPad, Mac and PC without a separate interface.
A controller keyboard that carries its own MIDI ports and headphone output.
Most compact controllers assume a computer is always present and drop the MIDI ports to save space. iRig Keys 2 does not. MIDI in and out on 2.5 mm TRS jacks means the keyboard drives a hardware synth or a drum machine with no computer in the room, which is the difference between a controller and an instrument you can actually gig with.
The headphone output is the other unusual inclusion. Plug headphones straight into the keyboard for silent practice and monitoring, without routing audio back out of a phone or tablet through a separate interface.
A pitch bend wheel, a modulation control and a 1/4 in. TRS external pedal input are on board, which is what separates this model from the Mini. Volume, octave up and down, program up and down, a setup button and an assignable data push encoder handle the rest of the control surface.

What Size Keyboard Is iRig Keys 2?
37 mini keys with velocity response. Mini keys keep the footprint small enough to travel with, at the cost of standard key width.
Who Is iRig Keys 2 For?
Producers working from a laptop, phone or tablet, players who need MIDI ports for hardware, and anyone who wants a controller that works away from the desk. The onboard headphone output makes it usable for practice on its own.
Does It Need a Computer?
Not to send MIDI. The 2.5 mm TRS MIDI out drives a hardware synth or module directly. A host is needed if you want the keyboard to play software instruments.
