Overview

IK Multimedia iRig Mic HD 2 is a handheld USB condenser microphone with a 0.55 in. cardioid capsule and a built-in low-noise preamp and converter, running 24-bit conversion at sample rates to 96 kHz. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz at -3 dB with 125 dB maximum SPL and sensitivity adjustable across a 40 dB range, plus a 1/8 in. headphone output for direct monitoring.

A digital microphone that skips the interface and still records at 96 kHz.

iRig Mic HD 2 puts the preamp and the converter inside the microphone. That means no separate interface, no headset jack in the chain, and 24-bit conversion at up to 96 kHz happening at the capsule rather than after a cable run. The full 20 Hz to 20 kHz response is where it separates from the analog iRig Mic, which stops at 100 Hz and 15 kHz.

The 0.55 in. cardioid capsule handles up to 125 dB SPL with sensitivity of -40 dB at 10 mV per Pa, adjustable across a 40 dB range from the low profile gain control on the body. A multicolor LED shows status and level, and there is a separate headphone volume control alongside the 1/8 in. TRS monitoring output.

Cables for Lightning, USB-A and USB-C are all included, connecting to the microphone on standard micro-USB. It also ships with a protective bag, a mic clamp, a 5/8 in. to 3/8 in. thread adapter and a table top stand, so it works handheld, on a stand or on a desk out of the box. The body measures 188 x 49 mm.

Why Choose a Digital Microphone Over an Analog One?

The conversion happens at the capsule, before anything can degrade the signal. There is no headset jack, no separate preamp and no analog cable run between the microphone and the converter. That is why iRig Mic HD 2 reaches a full 20 Hz to 20 kHz where the analog iRig Mic stops at 100 Hz and 15 kHz.

Who Is iRig Mic HD 2 For?

Podcasters, voiceover artists, journalists and musicians recording into an iPhone, iPad or Mac who want studio quality without carrying an interface. The table top stand and mic clamp mean it works at a desk, on a stand or in the hand.
