Overview

IK Multimedia TONEX Capture is a Hi-Z direct box, cabinet splitter and attenuator that connects an audio interface to a real amp and cabinet at the right level in both directions, for capturing Tone Models and for reamping. Two independent gain stages give up to 24 dB of attenuation each way, with ground lift and galvanic isolation, in a 13.7 x 15.8 x 4.5 cm chassis weighing 980 g.

Capture your own amp without microphones, load boxes or a hum problem.

Capturing an amp normally means matching impedances and levels between three or four devices that were never designed to talk to each other, then chasing hum for an hour. TONEX Capture collapses that into one box with two knobs.

The first stage takes a line output from your interface, matches the impedance to Hi-Z and feeds your amp at the right level, attenuated by up to 24 dB with the left control. The second stage sits passively between the amp and the cabinet, taking a copy of the real speaker-level signal and attenuating it by up to 24 dB with the right control so the interface receives a safe line level. A speaker must remain connected. It also accepts an amplifier line out or a pedal output instead.

Because the split is passive and the unit is galvanically isolated with a ground lift, you get a pre-cabinet copy of the amp's real tone with no microphone in the chain and no ground loop. That same signal path is exactly what reamping needs, so the box does double duty long after the captures are done. TONEX SE with 200 Tone Models is included.

How Does TONEX Capture Work?

Two gain stages running in opposite directions. Stage one takes a line signal from your interface, matches it to Hi-Z and feeds your amp, attenuated up to 24 dB. Stage two sits passively between the amp and the speaker cabinet, or takes the amp's line or pedal output, and sends a copy back to your interface attenuated up to 24 dB. A speaker must stay connected when using the speaker-level path.

Who Is TONEX Capture For?

Anyone capturing their own amps for TONEX, and anyone who reamps regularly. Studios use it as a permanent piece of the reamp chain even when no captures are being made.

What Comes in the Box?

The TONEX Capture unit, the power supply and four adhesive rubber feet. TONEX SE software with 200 Tone Models is included with registration.

Do I Need a Microphone to Capture an Amp?

Not with this. The capture happens pre-cabinet, so you get the amplifier's own tone without a microphone or a room in the signal. You can still capture with a microphone if that is the sound you want, but it is no longer required.

Why IK Multimedia?

IK Multimedia has been building music production hardware and software in Modena, Italy since 1996, with US operations in Sunrise, Florida. The company is behind AmpliTube, T-RackS, TONEX, the ARC room correction platform and the iLoud monitor range, and it designs its own DSP, converters and analog front ends rather than assembling reference designs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a genuine IK Multimedia product?

Yes. Victory is a veteran owned dealer in Miami and units ship new in original packaging with full manufacturer support.

Is this covered by warranty?

Yes. This unit carries the full IK Multimedia manufacturer warranty, registered to you as the original purchaser. Call 844-687-4208 with the current term for your region.

Does it replace a load box?

It is not a load box. A speaker cabinet must stay connected to the amplifier when using the speaker-level path. TONEX Capture takes a safe attenuated copy of that signal rather than absorbing the amp's output.

Can I use it for reamping only?

Yes. The signal path and the gain staging are exactly what reamping needs, and many users buy it for that alone.

Will it work with software other than TONEX?

Yes. It is an analog interface box. Any capture or reamp software that takes a line input will work with it.
