IK Multimedia TONEX Plug is a plug-in headphone amp for guitar and bass that carries 30 customizable Tone Model presets in a body measuring 40 x 75 x 20 mm and weighing 70 g. It runs 24-bit and 96 kHz converters with 5 Hz to 20 kHz response and up to 119 dB dynamic range, works as a USB audio interface, and is controlled from a phone over Bluetooth Low Energy.

TONEX is IK's AI Machine Modeling platform. Instead of emulating a circuit, it listens to a real amp, cabinet or pedal and builds a Tone Model of how that rig actually responded. Models are shared and downloaded through ToneNET, so the library keeps growing without a firmware update.
Plug it into the instrument jack, put headphones in, and you have thirty amp rigs with no cables, no pedalboard and no amplifier. Power comes over USB-C at 5 V and 700 mA, so a phone battery pack or a laptop runs it. The TONEX Control app on iOS 16 or later, or Android 14 or later, handles preset selection and editing over Bluetooth 5 with Low Energy support.
It is also a functioning audio interface. Connect it to a computer over USB and record the processed signal at 24-bit and 44.1 kHz, or run it into TONEX and AmpliTube on the desktop with the ASIO driver for low latency on Windows.

How Do I Change Presets Without a Screen?
From your phone. The TONEX Control app connects over Bluetooth Low Energy and handles preset selection and editing. It needs iOS 16 or later, or Android 14 or later, and Bluetooth 5 with Low Energy support on the device.
Who Is TONEX Plug For?
Silent practice, hotel rooms, backstage warm ups, and anyone who wants real captured amp tone without carrying an amp. It also serves as a pocket recording interface, which makes it useful well beyond practice.
Is TONEX Plug Good for Travel?
It is the smallest rig IK makes. At 70 g it plugs directly into the guitar jack, runs on its internal battery, and drives headphones with no amp and no interface. It fits a gig bag pocket.
What Comes in the Box?
The TONEX Plug and a 0.6 m USB-C to USB-C cable. Headphones and a power source are not included, though any USB-C phone charger or battery pack will run it.
Does It Work for Bass?
Yes. IK builds it for guitar and bass, and the 5 Hz to 20 kHz response has the bottom end to handle bass properly.

Do I need a computer to use it?
No. Once presets are loaded it works standalone with a phone for control and any USB power source.
