SM-5-C is a passive in-ceiling version of the SM-5, built for immersive installations where the height channels have to disappear into the ceiling rather than sit on stands. It keeps the Santa Monica 3-way coincident architecture and is driven from external amplification.
The height channels, without the stands.
An Atmos or immersive room needs height channels, and in most rooms there is nowhere to put them except the ceiling. Hanging a standard monitor overhead is awkward, ugly and often not permitted by the building. A purpose-built in-ceiling version solves that.
The SM-5-C is passive, so it is driven from external amplification rather than carrying its own. That is normal for install work, where amplification is centralised in a rack and speakers are wired back to it. Acoustically it stays in the Santa Monica family, so the height channels match the rest of the system rather than being a compromise bolted on.

Is the SM-5-C Powered?
No. It is passive and requires external amplification, which is standard for install work where amplifiers live in a central rack.
What Is It For?
Immersive and Atmos height channels, and any installation where the speaker has to go into the ceiling rather than onto a stand.
Will It Match My SM-5s?
It is built on the same Santa Monica 3-way architecture, so the height channels stay tonally consistent with the rest of a Santa Monica system rather than introducing a different voice overhead.
Why Kali Audio
Kali Audio was started in Burbank in 2018 by engineers out of the professional audio industry, and the whole company is built on one idea: measure everything, publish the measurements, and let the numbers do the arguing. Every product line is named after a California town. Lone Pine is the entry range, Independence is the 3-way coaxial line, Santa Monica is the flagship, and Watts is the subwoofer series. Kali became the reference for value in studio monitoring by beating far more expensive speakers on measured response rather than on marketing.
