Triumph Series Bb Euphonium, 3+1 Pistons, Large Shank is a Bb euphonium with 3+1 pistons, three top action and one side action and a large shank receiver, finished in gold lacquer and supplied with a mouthpiece and a protective case.
The 3+1 layout puts the fourth valve under the left hand, where it belongs.
The euphonium carries the tenor voice in a concert band and doubles the melody as often as it plays a bass line, so intonation and a wide dynamic range matter more than raw volume. The Triumph Series euphoniums are built around that job.
Shank size and valve count are the two things that separate euphoniums from each other, and both have practical consequences rather than cosmetic ones. Getting them right for the player and the part is what makes the instrument usable rather than merely present.

What Does 3+1 Mean?
Three pistons sit in the usual top action block under the right hand, and the fourth is mounted on the side of the instrument for the left hand index finger. It is more comfortable than a four-in-line block and it lets the left hand do useful work instead of just holding the horn.
What Does the Fourth Valve Do?
It lowers the instrument by a perfect fourth, which extends the range down into the pedal register and, more useful day to day, gives alternate fingerings that fix the sharp low D and C sharp a three valve horn cannot correct.
What Is the Difference Between a Small Shank and a Large Shank?
It is the size of the mouthpiece receiver. A small shank takes a trombone-sized mouthpiece and is the usual choice for a younger player or a doubler coming off trombone. A large shank takes a larger mouthpiece, moves more air and gives a broader sound, which is the standard for serious euphonium playing. The two are not interchangeable.
