The Nord Grand 2 is an 88 note stage piano built on a premium Kawai hammer action keyboard with Ivory Touch keytops, paired with the Nord Sound Libraries in a slim metal cabinet.

The Grand 2 exists for players who want the acoustic feel first. Nord sources the keybed from Kawai, which builds acoustic pianos, and the Ivory Touch keytops give you grip when your hands get warm under lights.
Everything else is Nord. The sound libraries, the tactile one control per function panel, and the load in weight of 47 lbs, which is remarkable for a fully weighted hammer action instrument.

Nord kept the panel philosophy intact. One control per function, no menu paging, and a display you can read from a standing position in stage light.

What Is Ivory Touch?
It is a textured keytop surface rather than gloss plastic. It absorbs moisture and gives your fingers grip, which matters most on long gigs and in hot rooms. Acoustic piano makers have used the same idea for years as a synthetic replacement for real ivory.
Grand 2 or Piano 6?
Pick by keybed.
If you came from an acoustic piano and the action is the thing you notice first, the Grand 2 and its Kawai hammer action is the one. If you are switching between piano, pads and organ across a set and want lighter, faster response and a lighter load in, the Piano 6 Triple Sensor keybed is the better tool.
Who Is the Grand 2 For?
Pianists first.
If you trained on an acoustic instrument and the action is the thing you judge a keyboard by within ten seconds, this is the Nord built for you. Players who spend most of the set on organ or synth will find the hammer action slower than they want and should look at the Stage 4 Compact or an Electro 7.

Why Nord
Nord instruments are designed and built by Clavia DMI in Stockholm, Sweden. For the Grand series they partnered with Kawai for the keybed rather than building their own hammer action, which tells you where their priorities are.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does it compare to a digital piano with built in speakers?
The Grand 2 is a stage instrument with no internal speakers. It expects a PA, keyboard amp or monitors. If you want a self contained instrument for a living room, a console digital piano is a better fit.
Can I load additional piano sounds?
Yes. The Nord Piano Library and Nord Sample Library load through Nord Sound Manager, and the libraries continue to grow.
Does the Grand 2 have a synth section?
The Grand 2 is focused on piano and sample playback from the Nord Libraries. If you need a dedicated synth section alongside the piano, look at the Piano 6 or the Stage 4.
Which pedal should I use with it?
The Nord Triple Pedal 2, AMS-NTP2, is designed for the Grand 2 and gives you continuous sensors, half damping and pedal noise.
Does the standard keyboard stand fit?
The AMS-NSCL KB Stand EX fits the Grand. The AMS-NWKS-V4 Nord Wood Keyboard Stand V4 also fits Grands and is the better looking option for fixed installs.
