The Nord Wave 2 is a four part performance synthesizer combining virtual analog synthesis, samples, FM and wavetable behind a layer focused interface. It weighs 20 lbs and measures 39 in x 12 in x 4 in.

Most synths make you pick an architecture. The Wave 2 gives you virtual analog, sample playback, FM and wavetable, and lets you stack four independent parts across them.
The interface is organized around layers rather than around a single voice. That is a deliberate choice for performance: you are building a stacked sound for a song and adjusting the relationship between the parts, not tuning one oscillator in isolation.
At 20 lbs it is a genuinely portable synth, which matters when it is the second keyboard on your stand.
Nord put a full effects section behind each part rather than sharing one chain, so a stacked sound holds together instead of turning to mud when you add the fourth layer.

What Does Four Part Mean in Practice?
Four independent sound engines running at the same time, each assignable to its own key range, velocity range or MIDI channel. You can build a split with a bass on the left and a three layer pad stack on the right, or stack all four for one very large sound.
Can I Load My Own Samples?
Yes. Sample playback is one of the four synthesis types, and you can bring your own material in through the Nord Sample Editor or pull from the Nord Sample Library through Nord Sound Manager.
Who Is the Wave 2 For?
Sound designers and players building large stacked textures.
It rewards somebody who wants to combine a wavetable pad, an FM bell and a sampled string section into one patch and play it as a single instrument. If you want one classic analog lead and want it fast, the Lead A1 gets you there in fewer moves.

Why Nord

Can it act as a master keyboard?
Yes. Four parts assignable to separate MIDI channels makes it a capable controller for external modules alongside its own engines.
How much sample memory does it have?
Check the current Nord specification page for the exact figure on your firmware, since Nord has increased sample memory across the Wave line over time.
Is the Wave 2 a good main keyboard?
It is a synthesizer, not a stage piano. It has excellent acoustic and electric piano samples available, but if piano is your primary sound the Piano 6 or Stage 4 is the better anchor with the Wave 2 on top.
Does it have aftertouch?
The Wave 2 is a performance synth with a semi weighted action. Check the current Nord specification page for the exact controller complement on your unit before ordering if aftertouch is a requirement.
What case fits it?
