Why On-Ear Rather Than Over-Ear?
Weight and heat. Over-ear DJ headphones isolate well but get heavy and hot across a long set. The HDJ-CX is built to stay comfortable for hours while still isolating enough to cue in a loud room.
Do They Isolate Enough for a Club?
They are designed for professional booth use, so isolation is engineered for cueing against high stage volume. It is a deliberate balance against the weight saving rather than a compromise.
Are They Suitable for Studio Use?
They are voiced for DJ monitoring and cueing rather than for mixing. For critical studio listening a reference headphone is the better tool.

Pioneer DJ has set the standard in club and festival booths for three decades, to the point that the CDJ and DJM are what a rider means when it says industry standard.
