Overview

Ambassador Coated is the most widely used drumhead in the world, a single ply of 10-mil coated film giving warm, open tone with bright attack and controlled sustain. It is the default batter head on snare and toms in more studios and rehearsal rooms than any other design, and it is the head most drummers measure every other head against.

The industry standard, and the reason every other head gets compared to something.

What Is the Ambassador Coated Used For?

It is a general-purpose batter head for snare drums and toms. The coating adds warmth and makes brush work possible, and the single 10-mil ply keeps the drum open and responsive rather than choked.

Ambassador or Emperor, Which Should I Choose?

Ambassador is one ply, so it is more open, more sensitive and brighter, with a shorter lifespan under heavy hitting. Emperor is two plies of 7-mil, so it is warmer, more durable and more controlled. Lighter players and studio work lean Ambassador, hard hitters lean Emperor.

What Size Do I Need?

Measure the drum shell diameter, not the old head. Standard rack toms are 10, 12 and 13 inches, floor toms 14 and 16, and snare drums almost always 14.

Why Remo

Remo has made drumheads in the United States since 1957, when Remo Belli replaced calfskin with Mylar and ended the problem that had defined drumming until then: a head that changed pitch with the weather. Every major head design since has come out of that company, and the Ambassador remains the most widely used drumhead in the world. Remo also builds world percussion, marching heads and the Acousticon shells used across its drum circle range.
