The Ambassador SMT Clear tom drumhead is a pre-muffled head designed for use on floor toms with a metal flanged counter hoop to provide a short, punchy, bass drum like sound. Clear or Coated SMT, Which Should I Choose?
Coated warms the tone slightly and allows brush work. Clear is brighter with more attack. Both produce the same short, punchy floor tom character from the SMT ring.
Will It Fit My Floor Tom?
It uses a thin tom-style hoop designed for metal flange-style counter hoops. Available in 16 and 18 inches.
Do I Still Need Internal Muffling?
Generally no. The SMT dampening ring is doing that job, which is the reason to fit this head rather than a standard one with tape on it.
Why Remo
Remo has made drumheads in the United States since 1957, when Remo Belli replaced calfskin with Mylar and ended the problem that had defined drumming until then: a head that changed pitch with the weather.
