The Ambassador SMT Ebony tom drumhead is a pre-muffled head designed for use on floor toms with a metal flanged counter hoop to provide a short, punchy, bass drum like sound. It is constructed with a coated 10-mil single-ply film, a dot for added durability, and SMT dampening ring. The SMT Coated tom drumhead adds low-end punch to floor toms. What Is the Difference Between Ebony and Clear or Coated?
Ebony is Remo's black film. Tonally it sits close to clear with a fraction more focus, and it is chosen as often for how it looks on a kit as for how it sounds.
Will It Fit My Floor Tom?
It uses a thin tom-style hoop for metal flange-style counter hoops, in 16 and 18 inches.
What Does SMT Do on a Tom?
The dampening ring shortens the decay and adds low-end punch, so the floor tom hits short and thick rather than ringing on.
Why Remo
Remo has made drumheads in the United States since 1957, when Remo Belli replaced calfskin with Mylar and ended the problem that had defined drumming until then: a head that changed pitch with the weather. Every major head design since has come out of that company, and the Ambassador remains the most widely used drumhead in the world. Remo also builds world percussion, marching heads and the Acousticon shells used across its drum circle range.
