What Does the Overtone-Reducing Agent Do?
It sits between the two plies and damps the ringing overtones that a bare two-ply head produces. The result is a focused, punchy sound with a shorter decay, achieved inside the head rather than with tape or gel on top of it.
Pinstripe or Emperor, Which Should I Buy?
Both are two-ply clear. Emperor stays open and resonant with more sustain. Pinstripe is noticeably more controlled and punchy. If your toms ring more than you want, Pinstripe is the answer.
Is Pinstripe Good for Recording?
Yes, and it is common in studios for exactly that reason. The controlled decay means less ring to fight with in the mix, and close mics respond well to the focused midrange.
Why Remo
Remo has made drumheads in the United States since 1957, when Remo Belli replaced calfskin with Mylar and ended the problem that had defined drumming until then: a head that changed pitch with the weather. Every major head design since has come out of that company, and the Ambassador remains the most widely used drumhead in the world.
