Powerstroke 3 Ebony Bass with Port is a single ply Ebony bass drumhead with an inlay dampening ring and a 5 inch Dynamo port hole, supplied pre-cut so a microphone can go inside the drum without anyone taking a blade to a new head.
The port is already cut, straight and in the right place.

Why Buy a Pre-Ported Head?
Cutting a port by hand risks a tear that will propagate under tension and ruin the head. A factory port is cut cleanly, reinforced, and placed correctly relative to the hoop, which is off centre rather than in the middle.
What Is the Port For?
It lets a microphone reach inside the drum and it lets air escape, which shortens the decay and tightens the attack. Both are standard practice for live and recorded bass drum sound.
What Does the Dampening Ring Do?
The Powerstroke inlay ring around the outer edge controls overtones there while leaving the centre of the head free, which is what gives the Powerstroke range its focused low end.
Why Remo
Remo has made drumheads in the United States since 1957, when Remo Belli replaced calfskin with Mylar and ended the problem that had defined drumming until then: a head that changed pitch with the weather.
