Overview

Tycoon Percussion Concerto Series Bongos are a 7 inch and 8-1/2 inch traditional bongo pair built on hand-selected aged Siam Oak shells with premium water buffalo skin heads, chrome Deluxe hoops and large 5/16 inch diameter tuning lugs, finished in high-gloss blue. They are made for the percussionist who wants a full-size, hand-tuned bongo set for salsa, Latin jazz, worship and studio work rather than a starter pair.

Water buffalo skin on aged Siam Oak is the combination that gives a bongo its bark.

The Concerto Series sits above Tycoon's Supremo and Artist lines and carries the heavier hardware to match. The 5/16 inch tuning lugs hold pitch through a set instead of drifting flat, and the chrome Deluxe hoops give the rims the rigidity a player needs when the hand is landing hard on the macho for slap tones.

Natural skin behaves differently from synthetic. Water buffalo hide gives the low, round bass tone on the hembra and the crack on the macho that plastic heads flatten out. It also moves with humidity, which is why the set ships with a tuning wrench and why players who gig outdoors get used to touching the lugs before a set.

The high-gloss blue finish is a full lacquer over the oak rather than a wrap, so the grain still reads through the color under stage light.

What Size Are These Bongos?

The macho, the smaller and higher-pitched drum, is 7 inches. The hembra, the larger and lower drum, is 8-1/2 inches. That is the standard full-size traditional pairing and the size most Latin repertoire is written around.

What Are the Shells and Heads Made Of?

Shells are hand-selected aged Siam Oak. Heads are premium water buffalo skin. Hoops are chrome Deluxe, and the tuning lugs are 5/16 inch in diameter.

Who Are These Bongos For?

Working percussionists, church rhythm sections, and studio players who need a natural-skin bongo that holds tuning and records well. The Concerto Series is a step up from an entry pair, so it also suits a school or worship program buying one set that has to last through many hands.

What Comes in the Box?

The bongo pair and a tuning wrench. Stands, bags and replacement heads are sold separately.

Why Tycoon Percussion

Tycoon builds its drums at its own factory in Thailand, which is why a Siam Oak shell shows up on instruments at this level rather than only on flagship models. The company has been supplying professional percussionists for over two decades and its bongos and congas are regularly specified alongside the older Latin percussion names.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these genuine Tycoon Percussion bongos?
Yes. Victory is a veteran owned dealer in Miami and units ship new in original packaging.

Are they covered by a warranty?
Yes. These bongos carry the manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Call 844-687-4208 with the model number if you need to open a claim.

Do natural skin heads need tuning?
Yes. Water buffalo skin responds to heat and humidity, so expect to check the lugs before a performance. The included wrench is the only tool required.

What is the difference between the Concerto Series and the Supremo Series?
Concerto uses heavier chrome Deluxe hoops and larger 5/16 inch tuning lugs, and the shells are hand-selected aged Siam Oak with a full high-gloss finish. Supremo is the lighter-duty line below it.

Does a stand come with them?
No. Bongo stands and seated stands are separate items. Call 844-687-4208 and we will match the right stand to the pair.
