Overview

TTW-2 Two-Tone Wood Block is a two-tone wood block with two slotted resonating chambers cut into a single hardwood body, giving a high pitch on one side and a low pitch on the other. One instrument and one beater cover a two-note figure, which is why two-tone blocks became standard on percussion racks and in classroom sets where a single instrument has to cover two voices.

Two pitches out of one block, so a single hand states the whole figure.

A wood block produces its click from a slotted chamber cut into solid hardwood. Striking the wood next to the slot excites the air inside and returns a short, dry, high-register attack with almost no sustain. Because the sound is so brief and sits well above the low end, it reads clearly through a dense mix without any low frequency conflict.

The two-tone design puts two chambers of different length in one body. The shorter chamber sounds higher, the longer one lower, and the interval between them is enough to make an alternating pattern read as a musical figure rather than a repeated click. Latin percussionists use it for guiro and clave-adjacent parts, drum set players mount it on a rack for accents, worship teams use it as a quiet percussion voice, and it is a fixture of school general music rooms.

What Is a Two-Tone Wood Block?

It is a single hardwood body with two slotted resonating chambers of different lengths. The short chamber gives a high pitch and the long chamber gives a low one, so a single player can state a two-note pattern with one instrument.

Who Is the TTW-2 For?

Latin percussionists, drum set players who mount percussion on a rack, worship percussion teams, school general music and percussion programs, and studio players who need a dry click that sits above the mix.

How Do You Play a Wood Block?

Strike the wood surface next to the slot with a hard beater or a stick. Hitting directly over the slot deadens the tone. Holding the block loosely, or mounting it on a bracket, lets the body resonate. Alternate between the two chambers to move between the high and low pitch.

Why Tycoon Percussion

Tycoon Percussion has built hand percussion in Thailand since 1985, using regional hardwoods and hand assembly across a range that runs from student cajons to professional congas and timbales. The company supplies school programs, working percussionists and studio players, and the hand percussion line is priced to be bought and played rather than admired.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a wood block used for?

It provides a short, dry, high-register click that cuts through a mix without adding low end. It is used across Latin percussion, drum set rack setups, orchestral parts, worship percussion and classroom music.

Why does it have two chambers?

The two slotted chambers are different lengths, so one sounds high and the other low. That lets a single player state a two-note figure without switching instruments.

Does it come with a beater?

Wood blocks are commonly played with a separate hard beater or a drum stick, sold separately. Confirm current packaging by calling 844-687-4208.

Is it genuine?

Victory is a veteran owned dealer in Miami and units ship new in original packaging.

Does it include a warranty?

Yes. Tycoon Percussion provides a limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the original purchaser. Contact Tycoon Percussion directly for warranty service.
