Four cores of UAD DSP horsepower over Thunderbolt 3. The Universal Audio UAD-2 Satellite QUAD (TB3) is an external DSP accelerator with four SHARC processors — the right entry point into Satellite DSP for engineers who need additional UAD plug-in capacity without going all the way to OCTO.

Overview

For mix engineers who routinely hit DSP overload limits on their Apollo interface, the Satellite QUAD adds four cores of dedicated UAD-2 processing — enough to comfortably handle most mixing sessions with deep plug-in chains. It connects via Thunderbolt 3 USB-C and can be combined with up to six total UAD-2 devices on a single system. If you find QUAD isn't enough as your sessions grow, you can always add another Satellite later — UAD-2 systems chain DSP linearly.

Key Features

  • Four SHARC DSP Processors — Doubles or triples the DSP capacity of most Apollo setups.
  • Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) — Mac and Windows compatible.
  • Daisy-Chain Capable — Two TB3 ports for chaining additional Thunderbolt devices.
  • Combines with Existing UAD Devices — Up to six total UAD-2 devices supported per system.
  • Full UAD Plug-In Library Support — Run 200+ UAD plug-ins in any major DAW.
  • VST, AU, AAX 64 Format Support — Compatible with all major DAWs.

QUAD vs. OCTO: Which Should You Choose?

QUAD (4 cores) is plenty for most mixing engineers — it doubles the DSP capacity of an Apollo Twin X DUO or Apollo Solo, and significantly expands a QUAD-core Apollo. OCTO (8 cores) is the right choice for engineers running very heavy plug-in counts, mastering with multiple instances of high-DSP plug-ins (Manley Massive Passive, Lexicon 224, Studer A800 multichannel), or building large hybrid DSP/native mix rigs. Start with QUAD; upgrade to OCTO if you find QUAD isn't enough.

Compatibility

  • Mac and Windows — Native Thunderbolt 3 or 4 required.
  • For mixing/native DAW use. Satellites add plug-in DSP; Apollo realtime DSP runs on the Apollo itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an Apollo interface to use a UAD-2 Satellite?

No. The Satellite adds UAD plug-in processing power to almost any Mac or Windows setup, with or without an Apollo. It connects over the interface listed in the title (Thunderbolt 3 or USB).

What is the difference between OCTO and QUAD?

OCTO has eight SHARC DSP cores and QUAD has four. OCTO lets you run roughly twice as many UAD plug-in instances at once, which matters for large mixes and high sample rates.

Will it work with my computer?

Match the connection in the product title to your computer: TB3 models need a Thunderbolt 3/4 port, USB models need a compatible USB 3 port. Check current UA system requirements for your OS version.

What's included in the box?

Your purchase includes: UAD-2 Satellite QUAD (TB3), External power supply, UAD Software (digital via UA Connect).

Is the UAD-2 Satellite QUAD - a genuine Universal Audio product?

Yes. Victory Musical Instruments is a veteran-owned, authorized Universal Audio dealer based in Miami, FL. Every unit is brand-new, factory-sealed, and covered by the full UA manufacturer warranty.

Can I get help choosing or setting it up?

Absolutely. You'll talk to real people, not a call center. Call us at 844-687-4208 and we'll help you spec the right gear and get it running.
