Universal Audio Volt 1 Gen 2 is a 2-in / 2-out USB audio interface with 32-bit / 192 kHz conversion, one Tone Shaping Preamp with 60 dB of gain, a front-panel Hi-Z instrument input and a mic / line input with switchable 48V phantom power. It is USB bus powered and class compliant, so it records on Mac, Windows, iPad and iPhone, and it ships with the UAD Volt Studio Bundle and the LUNA digital audio workstation.
Sound like a record from your first take, not like a demo.
Volt 1 is a next generation mobile USB audio interface with an onboard Tone Shaping Preamp, giving singer songwriters and content creators the sound of a pro studio from the moment they hit record.
Built by the same team behind the Apollo interfaces, Volt 1 makes recording effortless. Get up and running on Mac, Windows, iPad or iPhone in minutes. Set guitar and vocal levels quickly with hands-on controls. And when it is time to mix, you get an award winning suite of UAD plug-ins and the LUNA digital audio workstation.
Home recordings and phone demos can sound thin and lifeless. With three mic preamp modes, Warmth, Focus and Shine, you can add tube, solid state and British Class-A character to everything you record, straight at the source.

Who Is Volt 1 For?
Volt 1 is the entry point to the Volt range and it is built for one person recording one or two sources at a time. Singer songwriters who want to track a vocal and a guitar together, podcasters and streamers who need clean mic input and loopback, and anyone moving off a laptop microphone for the first time. If you need two mic preamps, a colour display or Auto-Gain, look at Volt 2 Gen 2 instead.
What Do the Tone Shaping Preamps Sound Like?
Volt 1 has a TONE button with four positions. Off is a clean preamp with 60 dB of transparent gain. Warmth is a US tube voicing, thick, dark and warm. Focus is a US solid-state voicing, mid-focused and tight. Shine is a British Class-A voicing, balanced with sparkle. The character lands on the recording rather than waiting for a plug-in.

Which Volt Is Right for You?
Six models share the same converters, the same 60 dB preamps and the same software. They differ in how many sources you record at once, whether the preamps also compress, and what you can plug into the back.

Why Universal Audio
Universal Audio has been building recording equipment since 1958, when Bill Putnam Sr. designed the 610 console and the 1176 limiter that are still the reference for the sound of a record. The modern company builds the Apollo interfaces, UAD plug-ins and the LUNA digital audio workstation. Volt takes the preamp voicings and dynamics algorithms from that catalog and puts them in a bus powered box that fits beside a laptop.
