Volt is Universal Audio's answer to the question of what a first serious interface should be. The conversion runs at 24-bit and 192 kHz, the preamps are UA's own, and the build is metal rather than plastic, which is not where most interfaces at this level spend their money.
Vintage Mic Preamp mode is the part people buy it for. A switch puts the input through a circuit voiced after UA's 610 tube preamp, adding the saturation and low-end weight that the 610 is known for. It is analog hardware in the signal path, not a plug-in applied afterward, so it is there whether or not a computer is involved.
Everything is class-compliant, so it works with a Mac, an iPad or an iPhone with no driver installation. Windows uses the ASIO driver from UA Connect. Direct Monitoring gives latency-free monitoring while recording, and every Volt ships with a software bundle including LUNA.

How Does Volt 876 Reach 24 In and 28 Out?
Eight analog preamps plus 16 in and 16 out of ADAT connectivity. That ADAT expansion also allows up to three Volt 876 units to be linked, and a standalone ADAT mode turns the unit into an 8 by 8 preamp expander for a third-party interface or an Apollo.
Who Is Volt 876 For?
Bands tracking live, studios recording drums with a full microphone set, and anyone who needs eight UA preamps with recallable gain. Assistive Auto-Gain and full session recall through UAD Console and LUNA are the features that separate it from the smaller Volts.
Can I Use It as a Preamp Expander?
Yes. Standalone ADAT mode connects Volt 876 to a third-party interface or to an Apollo over ADAT as an 8 by 8 I/O preamp expander, so it adds eight channels to a rig that already has a main interface.
What Does Vintage Mic Preamp Mode Actually Do?
It switches the input through an analog circuit voiced after UA's 610 tube preamp, adding the saturation and weight that preamp is known for. It happens in hardware before conversion, so it is not a plug-in and it does not need a computer to be in the path. The switch is per channel, so it can be left off when a clean signal is wanted.
Will It Work With an iPad or iPhone?

Why Universal Audio?
Universal Audio was founded in 1958 by M.T. "Bill" Putnam, the engineer who built the first recording console with integrated equalization and effects sends, and who designed the 1176 and the 610. The company was revived in 1999 by his sons and now does two things: it still hand-builds analog hardware in California, and it licenses and models the classics from Neve, API, Manley, SSL, Lexicon, Studer, Ampex and others rather than emulating them without authorization.

What software is included?
Universal Audio bundles software with every Volt, including the LUNA Recording System. UA changes the bundle contents periodically, so check uaudio.com or call 844-687-4208 for what is current.
Can I use it without a computer?
The preamps and Vintage mode are analog and sit before conversion, but Volt is a computer interface and needs a host to record. The Volt 876 additionally offers a standalone ADAT mode as an 8 by 8 preamp expander.
